Apple is good at what they do and even better than many other tech  companies in the world. With the new M1 Apple silicon chip , the group from Cupertino is setting new standards. While performance results have already been achieved with the iPhone and iPad that other manufacturers can only achieve if they upgrade their devices massively with RAM, almost everything remains modest at Apple. A few weeks ago, the concept of own chips, software and hardware was continued with the MacBook Pro, MacBook Air and Mac Mini.

For a few days I have been able to test a MacBook Pro with Apple Silicon (ARM M1) 8 GB and I am very enthusiastic about how the title spoils it. But let's start at the beginning.

Build And Design

Anyone who already owns a newer generation MacBook will actually see no difference in 2019/2020, as there is none on the outside. Anyone who has been walking around with an older model for a long time can look forward to a great keyboard, which after all the problems of the last few years is finally simply excellent and not jammed. The ESC button and the on / off button, which is also responsible for TouchID, have been arranged separately since the 2020 update and are no longer part of the touchbar. While the ESC key was previously only seen as a touch symbol on the touch bar, this was also installed as a real key in 2020, which I very much appreciate.

The MacBook Pro with M1 chip is currently only available in 13 inches, which is certainly sufficient for many. Personally, I prefer to work on a 15 inch or 16 inch. I can well imagine that more sizes will also be available in 2021.

battery pack

It can only be due to the M1 chip that the battery is so difficult to bring down. While I was hooked up to the network every 2-3 hours with the old Intel chips, I've been working 5-6 hours with the new MacBook Pro for the last 3 days and recharging it for the first time at the remaining 20% while I read these lines on it write. Meanwhile, he was allowed to play World of Warcraft, do Final Cut renderings and more. But then in the next chapter.

Performances

Apple definitely didn't lie when they cut out one superlative after the other during the “One More Thing” presentation. Even if I couldn't imagine it at first, my experience so far has been great.

In a few articles we had already written about what others were allowed to experience in terms of performance , but at the latest when I had around 15 Google Chrome Tabs, Adobe Lightroom and Adobe After Effect, open with the Media Encorder and the new M1 MacBook World of Warcraft Pro still couldn't get out of breath, I was thrilled.

Of course, rendering my 4K 3D trailer takes a lot longer in this case, but the MacBook Pro still has to work.

Even if my test does not correspond to everyday use, you can get a good idea of what the 8 GB M1 chip is capable of.

For years I have had a 2-week phase in which I like to walk through the World of Warcraft world. Of course, everything is installed on a MacBook. For the first time ever, I was able to activate full graphics power and the new M1 MacBook Pro had absolutely no problems with it. Best of all, Battle.net has already optimized many games for Apple's ARM environment, which makes a MacBook with M1 perfect for this.

While Adobe Lightroom still needs Rosetta 2 to support the Intel program, they are already working on an Apple Silicon version of Photoshop , which has already been published as a beta version.

Many providers are actively upgrading their apps for the new Apple M1 computers. Even if we are only at the beginning here, the future is definitely clear after these results and there will be no more Intel computers from Apple in the future.
