iPhone 13 Pro Max in the test: Super battery and great camera features.

Apple's iPhone 13 Pro Max has been available in stores since the end of September and Smarttech380 has had a test device in their hands for a good two weeks. In addition to a smaller notch, a 120 Hz display, the camera and battery life have also been upgraded.

We have tested the largest of the iPhone 13 models and tell you whether it is worth buying.

At first glance, the upgrade from the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the new iPhone 13 Pro Max seems rather minor. But should and can a technology company conjure a mega feature out of its hat every year, as we expect? We tend not to think so.

But even smaller updates are often tough and should be very welcome to one or the other user.

Design___is a bit heavier in the hand.

iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Design - is a little heavier in the

While Apple has made the notch smaller, the battery and the camera lenses have been enlarged, which does not damage the design, but actually makes up 12 grams. Even if this doesn't look like much, one or the other will notice as soon as they hold the iPhone 13 Pro Max in their hands.

In addition to a few new colors or color adjustments, there is no more to be noted in the design.

Battery - Mah one of  the best upgrade

It's Apple's annual promises that the battery will last longer and better than before. In addition to the power hardware, which is built in and consumes electricity, this may be true, but noticeably in recent years it has not been as big as it is new with the iPhone 13 Pro Max.

In daily use, whether watching a video, filming, taking photos or simply surfing and writing messages, there were actually around 3–4 hours more inside than before. There were actually home office days when I didn't have to recharge the iPhone until 36 hours later because the battery lasted during normal use.

Display - smooth transitions thanks to 120 Hz

The 120 Hz display was already eagerly anticipated last year and was urgently needed in order not to be completely overshadowed by the competition. Thanks to the new Super Retina XDR display with ProMotion, the frame rate automatically adapts to the content and also to the speed of the finger, which may be scrolling slower or faster.

Now it is unfortunately the case that the 120 Hz currently best felt within Apple's pre-installed apps, since all other developers have to optimize their apps first, which may take time.

But the big WOW comes to me every time I unlock the iPhone 13 Pro Max, because this is where the 120 Hz look the most beautiful in my opinion.

By the way, Apple automatically adjusts the refresh rate between 10 Hz and 120 Hz. This means that when you watch a film at 24 FPS, the iPhone automatically switches to 25 Hz, which also saves battery.

Camera - bigger and better

While the Chinese manufacturers always specify a blurred 100 times zoom for larger and better, Apple has remained quite loyal to the number of megapixels as well as the zoom levels for years. Here one rather improves the existing in order to maintain the usual quality here as well.

All 3 cameras are now equipped with night mode, so you can take great pictures in the dark with ultra wide angle, wide angle and telephoto.

The telephoto lens has received a small upgrade, which means that a 3x zoom is now possible instead of a 2.5 zoom as with the iPhone 12 Pro.

Apple also brings a macro mode, which definitely ensures exciting recordings, but is not yet quite where the Huawei Mate 20 Pro used to be.

In the test, you have to be honest, the naked eye may not notice much, because the news only really shows in the depth of field and the possibilities that are possible in low light. The biggest upgrade here is likely to be the cinema mode.

Cinema mode simplifies filming

It is a little difficult to describe the cinema mode, you actually have to experience it. Apple analyzes the entire image while filming, which allows the end of the film to focus on someone else in the video in selected time segments while editing.

Although this can also be done while filming, which was also possible in earlier iPhone versions, the transitions are smoother, as the AI already does a lot for you. In addition to people, the iPhone 13 Pro Max also recognizes objects, which means that the focus can sometimes be on a newspaper or a smartphone.

It should make filming a lot easier for some than it was before, as long as all the other "rules" are observed, of course.

MagSafe accessories new to the “Where is” network

Incidentally, Apple made a clever move for certain MagSafe accessories. For example, the credit card holder can be integrated into the “Where is” network, which means that the iPhone 13 Pro Max sounds the alarm as soon as it has not been connected to the iPhone for a minute. People who regularly lose something should be grateful for this message, because the coordinates of where it was last are integrated in the message.

Conclusion

It may not be the big update that we want somewhere in the back of our minds and knocks us all off our feet, but it is small and fine. In addition to the long-lasting battery and a smaller notch, the iPhone 13 Pro Max scores with an improved camera, which shows its strengths in night mode. The cinema mode is a better "nice to have" than the macro mode and is a pleasure to film.

The 120 Hz display cannot currently be sufficiently determined. However, this is currently up to the developers, who still have to implement the function. What you see, however, is fluid and gentle and is fun for more.

I like to answer the big question about the upgrade from the iPhone 12 Pro Max to the iPhone 13 Pro Max as follows: If you need a battery that lasts 3-4 hours more and you like to film, I would be happy to recommend the iPhone 13 Pro Max to you. With regard to other functions, you can also wait for autumn 2022.
